Play-by-play tagging
Hooplytix does not watch the floor with cameras and it does not ingest a league feed. A person on the bench — or someone tagging later from video — records what happened. Every box score line, lineup total and Index point comes from that log.
Scope first
Games sit under a team, a season and a competition. Pick those, add the opponent, home or away, and the tip time. Then open the game and tag.
Exact five on the floor
Before events can be logged, the active lineup must be exactly five players. Substitutions use SUB_IN / SUB_OUT. Lineup analytics always mean that exact five — not pairs or arbitrary combos.
Seventeen locked defaults
These tags stay locked and fill the box score:
They never contribute to the Hooplytix Index. The Index only moves when you tag custom events with weights.
Custom events in the same log
Your tags sit beside the defaults: name, up to four-letter acronym, category, signed Index weight, optional description. Tag them on a player (or as opponent events where the product allows). Each custom event also appears as its own column next to HI so you can see what built the total.
Quarters, overtime and shot location
- European regulation: four ten-minute quarters, then overtime as needed.
- Two- and three-point attempts open a half-court zone picker — twenty-five chart zones for team or opponent views, with overall / 2P / 3P splits.
- Wrong tag? Delete it from the log; derived stats follow.
What the log becomes
- Game overview: score by quarter, momentum, Four Factors, team vs opponent, points distribution, shot chart
- Team, player and lineup tables — basic and advanced
- Season rollups: totals or per-game averages, filtered by season and competition
